How is it to have a burnout?

(Jammerdal near Venlo... in my taste the most beautiful nature reserve in the Netherlands)

WHAT’S IT LIKE TO HAVE A BURNOUT?

After weeks of walking with vague complaints, my doctor said: ” Mr. Ambaum… Your persistent complaints stem from your lifestyle. You know what, you’re going to stop and make sure your life gets back in order”…..okay…

My employer also said: “Marco this is going to take a while, we are looking for a replacement and you will use it in the near future to get everything back in order”.

“Because you’re overworked, we thinkburnout”…..oh…

In search of a solution, I searched the internet, read books and had conversations with colleagues who had also experienced this.

In almost all cases I ended up with a burn-out coach, a mindfulness course or a reintegration program. In any case, a way to get out of the burnout as quickly as possible.

Unfortunately, I hardly found any stories of people telling what had happened to them.

How it felt, what they had been through or how exhausted they were.

How deep and dark a burnout can sometimes be.

I really missed that.

As a teacher, I’m used to explaining. In a simple way I can make the most complicated economic topics transparent for 16 year olds.

This power combined with the experience of burnout, have been the starting point of this part of the website. Explain in a simple way what I went through and how it felt.

I hope that, when you read this, you will see that a lot of things:

– belong;

– also go over again;

– have a cause;

-etc.

A piece of support in these difficult times!

How does the site work?

The site is built in phases. Where each phase represents a certain piece of time.

Phase 1 (the beginning), I was just sitting at home and what did I encounter

Phase 2 (a little further), I had some energy again and started to reintegrate, what I encountered

Phase 3 (thinking), how did it come to this. What behavior did I have to change to keep this from happening again.

These phases are different for everyone and what I describe can vary for everyone. Take a good look at where you are now and which phase you need.

You will notice that phases are intertwined. You are just sitting at home (phase 1) and start thinking how it came about (phase 3). That’s perfectly normal.

Also remember that some topics really need time. For example, accepting and “landing” in the burnout, that took me 3 months.

So take your time. It’s not a competition to get better as quickly as possible.

If you have any questions or comments while reading, please let me know (via the mail or the contact form). I like to think in terms of solutions.

I wish you every success, strength and above all a lot of reading pleasure.
